The Royal Hall Guided Tour

The Royal Hall, Harrogate Guided Tour
The Royal Hall, Ripon Road, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, HG1 2SY

Take a guided tour round the Grade II* listed Royal Hall designated as one of architect Frank Matcham's greatest achievements mentioned in the same breath as Blackpool Grand, Hackney Empire and Glasgow Kings theatres.

Learn about Harrogate's Glittering Palace of Gold and why the building was needed during the heyday of the spa popularity. Hear about the hall's versatility and why it is a place of entertainment rather than a theatre. Find out why the name changed from The Kursaal to The Royal Hall. Imagine it is 1903 as you take a stroll with your guide along the ambulatories and round the rear terrace. Stand in the Grand Hall and take in the beauty of the ceiling. Marvel at the gold leaf and lapis lazuli whilst standing on the original sprung dance floor. Could there be some ghosts! Hear about the £10.7m restoration undertaken in 2006/7 and the formation of and the ongoing involvement of the Royal Hall Restoration Trust. The Royal Hall is unique as architect Frank Matcham's only Kursaal.
