Open Day at St Wilfrid Harrogate
St. Wilfrids Parish Church, Duchy Road, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, HG1 2EY

Explore St Wilfrid's church in Harrogate, the town's only Grade I listed building and the largest parish church in the area. Designed by Temple Moore and consecrated in 1914, the church will have its treasures on display and tower tours.

The church of St Wilfrid was built for the growing Duchy Estate between the years 1904 and 1936. It is Grade I listed and has altered little since 1936, when the Lady Chapel, cloisters and hall were completed. There are some beautiful examples of arts and crafts style painted reredos and the pulpit, elaborate,high quality stained glass by Victor Milner and Harry Harvey, and the unique panels created by female artist Frances Darlington. The church was built to celebrate Mass in the Anglo Catholic tradition style of worship and services remain in that tradition to this day. For Heritage Open Days we will be getting some of the finest historic vestments out on display, along with arts and crafts silver and metal work objects. Church Tours will run on the hour between 11am and 3pm. Tower tours will run at 11.30, 12.30 and 1.30pm. Entry is free, donations welcome, refreshments will be served in the gorgeous 1936 parish hall with it's unusual "lamella" roof, as seen on All Creatures Great and Small!

Access
The church and hall are accessible to wheelchair users and parents with prams and pushchairs. The tower tours involve climbing over 80 steep steps, many of which are extremely narrow and in a spiral staircase. The tower tour is not suitable if you don't like enclosed spaces or heights or for children under 8 years old.
