HODS Event:
New Park Heritage Centre
New Park Heritage Centre
New Park Heritage Centre, New Park School, Skipton Road, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, HG1 3HF
The New Park Heritage Centre traces the history of this Harrogate neighbourhood from the earliest times of its development as an industrial suburb of the town in the 1840s to the present day.
New Park grew up along the main Ripon and Skipton Roads from the mid-nineteenth century. It developed as an industrial working-class suburb around the gasworks, electricity works, quarries and later a commercial laundry. Housing for the workers was developed along with shops, chapels, a school and an institute. The Heritage Centre traces that history through artefacts and photographs.
