CWGC Stonefall Cemetery Tours

CWGC Stonefall Cemetery Tours
Stonefall Cemetery, Wetherby Road, Follifoot, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, HG3 1DE

With over 1000 Commonwealth War Graves, Stonefall Cemetery is one of the largest CWGC sites in the North of England. Join us for a walk to learn about the work of the CWGC and the stories of some of those buried at Stonefall.

With over 1000 Commonwealth War Graves, Stonefall Cemetery is one of the largest Commonwealth War Graves Commission sites in the North of England. Nearly all of the casualties are airmen from the Second World War, with over two-thirds belonging to the Canadian forces.

On Thursday 15th September, join us for a special open day and get involved with the work of the CWGC after your tour. Try your hand at stonemasonry and hear from the horticulture experts to learn how they care for the graves.

To mark Heritage Open Days, join us for a walk around the cemetery to learn about the work of the CWGC and the stories of some of those buried at Stonefall. We will be telling some new stories this year as part of the Heritage Open Days' theme 'Astounding Inventions'. These include the story of Dorothy Robson also known as 'Bomb Sight Bertha', the engineer who was instrumental in the development of the bomb sight on bombers and Flight Lieutenant Vincent Parker who was known as the 'Locksmith of Colditz'.

Please note: The starting point for the tour is in front of the Crematorium - please be mindful that on weekdays cremations and funerals might be taking place. Please come dressed for the weather. The tour involves walking on grass as well as paths and will last for approximately 90 minutes.
You can park within the cemetery (be mindful that the gates for vehicles are locked at 1600 at weekends and 1630 weekdays). There is a public toilet near the main entrance from Wetherby Road.
